Trauma / Abuse
Childhood trauma affects individuals in a multitude of ways. From all forms of abuse and neglect to witnessing violence, the impact can be deep and damaging. Healing from abuse can take a number of different forms, and it changes as you get older. Counselling is an invitation to honour how you survived and the opportunity to move forward. Therapy with Tania will look at reshaping old stories that often accompany trauma and abuse. Focusing on the impact with your relationships and other developmental milestones may lead you to discovering new paths and ways to live life.
Healing from relationship violence or more subtle forms of bullying in a relationship takes a lot of courage. Undoing this harm can help you feel more grounded and to move forward to where you want to be.
Counselling can also help deal with traumatic symptoms resulting from traumatic events. Tania practices from a holistic perspective, which includes a feminist and creative approach and is client centered. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a tool sometimes used for processing trauma.
Witnessing Neglect / Abuse or Cruelty to animals
Family members or protection officers who have witnessed neglect or had to deal with animal cruelty may find themselves struggling to make sense of how humans can behave. Feelings of fear, anger, powerlessness, despair and frustration can be a struggle. Exposure to traumatic events can cause post traumatic stress disorder and feelings of helplessness. Counselling can help unpack the trauma, create a path towards healing from intrusive images and increase resilience.
